DR. LOUIS J. ATKINS MENTOR PROGRAM
The Florida Dental Association's Dr. Louis J. Atkins Mentor Program offers Florida dental-school students the opportunity to select an FDA member-dentist as a mentor. Students gain an important, practical perspective and mentors are rewarded by supporting Florida's dental-school students.
Dental-School Students
FDA Members can provide you with invaluable insight about the world of dentistry - including dental techniques, types of practices and patient relations. They also can personally address any questions or concerns you may have about dentistry. Mentoring can help ensure a smooth transition from attending dental school to becoming a dentist after you graduate.
For information on a mentor in your area, please contact David Higgins, Membership and Marketing Manager at (800) 877-9922, Ext. 121
FDA Members
Share your valuable experience and expertise with Florida's dental-school students. You can provide them with practical, everyday information they need to make a successful transition from graduation to practice.
Your mentoring responsibilities include:
- inviting your student to your practice to observe;
- keeping in touch with your student;
- inviting your student to the FDA's annual meeting, the Florida National Dental Congress (and, if you like, acting as an informal host);
- bringing your student to a local dental-society meeting and introducing him or her to local dental leaders;
- helping your student make the transition to practice after he or she graduates and passes the state board exam.
