FDA Provides “Red Flags Rule” Compliance Guide for Members
Due to encouragement by the American Dental Association, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has another delay in the enforcement of its “red flags rule,” which would have gone into effect Aug. 1. Compliance now must be met by June 1, 2010. Are you ready? These laws and rules pertain to identity theft. If your office offers credit of any kind, you need this information to comply.
Florida Dental Association (FDA) members have access to the ADA's new online kit to use when complying with the FTC’s “red flags rule.” FDA members also have access to information about the State of Florida's requirements of dentists concerning patient identity theft. The private sector is reportedly billing more than $1,000 to provide the same information. This is a fantastic benefit of belonging to organized dentistry!
The federal red flags rule was promulgated by the FTC, not the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Florida Dental Association (FDA). The ADA lobbied diligently against applying these laws to dentists’ offices. Once it became clear that dental offices would not be exempt, the ADA shifted its focus and partnered with the FDA to create this membership benefit.
Thank you for your FDA membership. We are working for you – everyday!
